What is a Data Feed in Adobe Analytics

Contents

Data feeds are a powerful way to get raw data out of Adobe Analytics. This raw data can be used in other platforms outside of Adobe to use at your organization’s discretion. Data is delivered in hourly batches at the conclusion of each hour, or in daily batches at the conclusion of each day.

Overview

Adobe Analytics collects and processes a vast amount of data related to your website or application’s traffic, user behavior, and various other metrics. While the Adobe Analytics interface provides powerful reporting and analysis capabilities, there may be instances where you need to access the raw data or integrate it with other systems or tools.

Data feeds enable you to extract this data from Adobe Analytics in a structured format, such as CSV, TSV, or XML, making it easier to work with the data outside of the Analytics interface. This feature is particularly useful for scenarios like:

  • Integrating Analytics data with your organization’s data warehouse or business intelligence (BI) tools for advanced analysis and reporting.
  • Combining Analytics data with data from other sources to gain a more comprehensive view of your business operations.
  • Building custom dashboards, visualizations, or applications that leverage Analytics data.
  • Automating data-driven processes or workflows based on Analytics data.

Data Feed Setup

To set up a data feed in Adobe Analytics, follow these steps:

  • Log in to your Adobe Analytics account and navigate to the “Admin” section.
  • Under the “Data Feeds” section, click on “Add”
  • Choose the desired data feed type (e.g., CSV, TSV, XML) and provide a name for your data feed.
  • Configure the data feed settings, such as the date range, report suite, metrics, and dimensions you want to include.
  • Specify the delivery method (e.g., FTP, Amazon S3, or email) and schedule for the data feed.
  • Review and save your data feed settings.

Data Feed Types

Adobe Analytics offers several types of data feeds, each with its own set of features and use cases:

  • Standard Data Feeds: These are the most common type of data feeds, allowing you to export data from standard Adobe Analytics reports in various formats (CSV, TSV, XML).
  • Real-Time Data Feeds: As the name suggests, real-time data feeds provide near-real-time access to your Analytics data, enabling you to integrate it with other systems or applications that require up-to-the-minute data.
  • Data Warehouse Data Feeds: These data feeds are optimized for integrating Analytics data with your organization’s data warehouse, providing a more efficient and scalable solution for large-scale data processing and analysis.

Best Practices

When working with data feeds in Adobe Analytics, consider the following best practices:

  • Carefully plan and design your data feed requirements to ensure you’re capturing the necessary data while minimizing unnecessary data transfer.
  • Implement appropriate security measures, such as encryption and access controls, to protect sensitive data during transfer and storage.
  • Monitor and optimize data feed performance, especially for large or frequent data transfers, to avoid potential bottlenecks or issues.
  • Regularly review and update your data feed settings to align with changing business requirements or data needs.

By leveraging data feeds in Adobe Analytics, you can unlock the full potential of your Analytics data, enabling more advanced analysis, integration, and data-driven decision-making within your organization.
