Wait Step

The Wait step is the core component of the Wait Flow. It allows you to introduce a delay or pause in the program’s execution. There are two main types of Wait steps:

  1. Wait for Duration: This option lets you specify a fixed amount of time (in days, hours, minutes, or seconds) for the program to pause before proceeding to the next step.
  2. Wait Until: This option allows you to define a specific date and time for the program to wait until before continuing. This is useful when you need to align your marketing activities with a particular event or schedule.

Use Cases

The Wait Flow can be utilized in various scenarios, such as:

  1. Nurture Campaigns: Introduce pauses between sending emails or other communications to allow prospects time to engage with your content and avoid overwhelming them.
  2. Event-based Marketing: Schedule campaigns to start or resume at a specific time, such as before or after an event, product launch, or webinar.
  3. Drip Campaigns: Deliver a series of messages or content over a predetermined period by inserting Wait steps between each step in the campaign.
  4. Data Management: Wait for data to be updated or synchronized before executing subsequent steps that rely on that data.

Configuring Wait Steps

To configure a Wait step in Marketo, follow these steps:

  1. In your program or campaign, drag and drop the “Wait” smart campaign element onto the canvas.
  2. Double-click the Wait step to open its configuration window.
  3. Choose the type of Wait step you want to use: “Wait for Duration” or “Wait Until.”
  4. If you selected “Wait for Duration,” specify the length of time to wait by entering the desired values for days, hours, minutes, and seconds.
  5. If you selected “Wait Until,” choose the date and time you want the program to wait until before proceeding.
  6. Optionally, you can add constraints or filters to the Wait step to further control when it should execute or skip based on specific conditions.
  7. Save your changes, and the Wait step will be incorporated into your program or campaign flow.
